modern day

if the situational comedy in the 50s and 70s tried to show a more realistic view on society and family in those times, what influential shows in our era (90s and 00s) are best representations of average american life?

  1. I would have to say the ultimate show of our current time would be Modern Family! I mean really, it keeps up with all of our changes in family dynamics--the typical family that's not so typical, old man with a hot young mama (which takes on age difference and multiracial aspects), and the gay couple with adopted asian daughter. And as diverse as our country and this family is, it is more common now than ever. Also, as wacky as this family is, it still holds to traditional values of family.

Oh, and it's just freaking funny

  2. Another show is Parenthood.
It involves a large family, and it has realistic situations. There are issues with money situations, issues with family fighting. One of the young characters is autistic, and the show includes all of the struggles that a family can face trying to bring up a child that is different.
    Parenthood is very real.
